Compensation:
  • $114,000 to $148,000 annually

Role Overview:

The Embedded Software Engineer designs, integrates and implements software of embedded devices and systems. Analyzes, studies and improves the efficiency and stability of the system. Executes a complete embedded software development lifecycle. Develops, codes, tests and troubleshoots the system software. Role responsibilities include software architecture design, building new applications, and maintaining and updating existing programs utilizing broad ranging embedded software and firmware including Linux. This position is expected to provide leadership in developing and supporting Cutsforth’s monitoring applications, along with continuous improvements of the applications while supporting business and testing needs. Project management, communication, organization, and initiative are key skills needed for this role.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supports company products with embedded software tools for data collection from a variety of sensors, developing and writing code for extraction of diagnostic features.
  • Interfaces with hardware design and development and provides postproduction support when needed.
  • Serves as expert administrator of Linux server and storage equipment and acts as subject matter expert and technical support for Linux platform operating systems and applications.
  • Collaborates with customers, internal teams, and vendors to fix and improve products.
  • Supports software quality assurance and optimizes I/O (input/output) performance.
  • Debugs and optimizes new and existing code.
  • Maintains software version and release control utilizing project and task management tools.
  • Conveys knowledge in presentations, SOPs, Knowledgebase articles, client case studies, and white papers as fitting.
  • Maintains and implements cybersecurity protocols as required, including code chain of custody and code security.
  • Participates in code reviews to analyze and improve code written by other vendors or team members.
  • Stays current with the latest industry developments, follows best practices in use of source control, and participates in code reviews.
  • Develop & maintain relationships with key clients and key vendors.
  • Limited travel may be required for performing equipment tests, software installation and troubleshooting, and customer training.

Required Qualifications:
  • 2 or more years of education in computer science or related field
  • 2 or more years of software development, including C/C++
  • 3 or more years of experience in Linux, including design and implementation of Linux projects.
  • Project-based development experience.
  • Experience integrating mechanical and electronic controls, understanding of instrumentation and P&ID diagrams, control logic, safety integrated systems, and controls; administrative and teamwork.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Electrical, or Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related field
  • 5 or more years of experience in areas outlined above.
  • Experience in the following areas:
    • Modbus
    • Python
    • Qt
    • GitHub

Other Qualifications:
  • Successfully pass background check for cybersecurity access requirements
  • General Software development proficiency including C/C++
  • Designs, develops, and implements new algorithms and tools, specifically within, but not limited to Linux operating system
  • Conducts routine and non-routine testing on existing algorithms to identify bugs and areas for optimization.
  • Documents algorithm implementation, user requirements, and specifications.
  • Must have the ability to follow patterns and build upon established models.
  • Must have experience employing the scientific method of problem-solving.
  • Must seek to understand and implement complex system designs.
  • Must be able to estimate the time required to complete familiar tasks/projects properly.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office is expected.

Cybersecurity Role Expectations:
  • Candidate will be responsible for reviewing policies and procedures related to cybersecurity and those relevant to the functions of their role.
  • Candidate is expected to maintain a cybersecure work environment.

Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to make and receive audio and video conference calls.
  • Required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
  • Must be able to use hands to type, handle products, parts objects, and tools and to navigate computer keyboard and machine controls.
  • Must be able to travel to company R&D facility and perform light-duty work, including the lifting of testing equipment and related components.
  • Must be able to travel to customer sites to perform light duty work, including the lifting of test equipment.
